Psychotherapy, also called therapy or counselling is the process of meeting with a therapist to explore and understand how you view the world. You may explore things like your relationships, your thought patterns, how you feel about your self and much more!
-
It is understandable you may feel nervous about your first session. Meeting a new therapist can be hard, as is being open about how you are feeling and thinking. You can expect a very warm and friendly person greeting you at reception. Once you have arrived, your therapist will meet you and walk you to the room. Usually, it takes a few sessions for your therapist to get to know you, and you know them. Expect lots of questions, but also know your therapist will take the session at your pace. The therapeutic relationship is a really important part of therapy and your therapist will discuss how to ensure you both feel comfortable whilst working together. Sessions typically go for 50 minutes.
-
The frequency of your sessions will be discussed in your first session. For most people, the frequency of sessions decreases over time, as you start to feel more empowered in your day to day life. Typically, some people will have weekly/fortnightly sessions, where as others may benefit from a tailored program involving group sessions, yoga and individual therapy.

You will be eligible for a rebate through Medicare providing you have a current mental health care plan or eating disorder management plan.
