Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is a holistic approach to wellness that integrates the principles and practices of yoga with modern therapeutic techniques. It is tailored to address individual needs and aims to promote healing on physical, mental, and emotional levels. Unlike a traditional yoga class, yoga therapy sessions are personalized and may include a combination of breathwork, movement, meditation, and mindfulness practices to support clients in achieving their health goals. Whether you're seeking relief from chronic pain, managing stress and anxiety, recovering from injury, or navigating life transitions, yoga therapy offers a safe and supportive environment for self-exploration and healing. By fostering awareness and connection between mind, body, and spirit, yoga therapy empowers individuals to cultivate greater well-being and resilience in their lives.

 Eating Disorder Recovery Yoga

These classes are specifically designed for people who experience body image, disordered eating or eating disorders. These classes are gentle and inclusive practices, focusing on cultivating an awareness of the breath and body. Practices are designed to be inclusive of all body shapes and sizes. Classes include gentle movement, breathing practices and meditation. It is recommended that everyone seeks medical opinion prior to commencing these classes. You do not need a formal diagnosis to attend. Classes are held virtually.

  • Yoga seeks to nurture the physical, psychological, social and spiritual wellbeing of those who practice and there is growing research that suggests yoga may play a role in the treatment of eating disorders. For many people with disorder eating/eating disorders, they experience disconnection from their body, high levels of anxiety and body image challenges. The practice of yoga may help with these experiences through:

    -        Developing awareness of the body

    -        Reducing anxiety as a result of practicing mindfulness and breathing techniques

    -        Improved body image

    -        Using movement to nurture the body and mind

  • The experience of an eating disorder/disordered eating often coincides with high levels of anxiety. For some, being exposed to discussions around weight, food or exercise can impact on their recovery.  Yoga practices require modification whilst in recovery, and a sound understanding from the teacher about the complexities of eating disorders/disorder eating.

Whilst one is learning how to regain connection to their body, reduce their eating disorder symptoms and lower anxiety levels, it can be helpful to attend a class that is tailored to these unique experiences. Yoga at Embody Space is trauma informed and eating disorder focused, allowing students to feel supported whilst moving their body in a safe way. Students can expect a more individualised approach, with the teacher being able to accommodate the class to suit each persons needs.
